History
In 2010, MCCOY launched the I CARE campaign to promote involvement in the drop-out prevention effort. The launch event, which had over 100 attendees, was covered by local media. The Mayor of Indianapolis declared November 18 I CARE Day.
About Own Yours
In 2011, MCCOY launched the Own Yours campaign to encourage students to own their future, to encourage parents to own their families, and to encourage community members to own their communities. By taking ownership, students, families, and communities can commit to the development and success of our communities.
The primary objective of the Own Yours campaign is to support the educational advancement of Marion County's youth and to promote positive messages about education through media. By encouraging students to Own Your Future and by supporting academic success, the Own Yours campaign hopes to see an increase in Marion County high school graduation rates. As our young adults graduate from high school, they will be confident, capable, and prepared to excel in the future.
The Own Yours campaign also encourages parents to Own Your Family and to show commitment to their children's success inside and outside the classroom. Parental support is a major factor in allowing youth to achieve their full potential.
Finally, the Own Yours campaign urges community members to Own Your Community. As the saying goes, "It takes a whole village to raise a child." As a community, it is our responsibility to support our students and give them the opportunities and guidance to succeed academically.

Own Yours at Back To School events

The Own Yours campaign helped students prepare for the start of the school year by participating in several back to school events. At the Coleman Back to School Rally on August 18th, MCCOY hosted a table alongside HOT 96.3 and distributed over 100 academic resource packets, Youth Activity Directories, and Own Yours wristbands in addition to collecting 67 Student Success Pledges! The Coleman Rally was a fantastic opportunity to connect with students and families and provide them with resources to encourage student success.
Along with the Coleman Rally, MCCOY promoted the Own Yours campaign at several other school events. From handing out Youth Advocacy Council applications and flyers at Manual High School's soccer game to encouraging Arlington students to sign Student Success Pledges, the Own Yours campaign is committed to promoting positive attitudes about school and increasing utilization of educational resources throughout our community.
Own Yours in the Community
On Saturday July 26, 2011, MCCOY participated in the Indiana Black Expo at the Indiana Convention Center. In collaboration with HOT 96.3, the Student Success Team hosted a rap contest on stage in which several youth rapped about the importance of school attendance and owning their future. The three top rappers chosen by audience applause were given a $100 gift card, and the first place winner also received concert tickets. About 100 young people also signed Student Success Compacts, which promoted academic success and empowerment. Additionally, more than 200 Own Yours wristbands were given out to the audience, which advertised ownyours.org. Some young people also took copies of the Youth Activity Directory as well as Youth Advocacy Council fliers and applications. The event was a successful outreach effort and it was tons of fun! The Student Success Team will continue the outreach efforts with an appearance at Coleman's Back to School Rally.
Spread the word about the Youth Advocacy Council! We are looking for motivated high school students in Central Indiana who want to create student-driven solutions to issues concerning youth in our communities. Students can fill out an online application here.
