Everyday Champions


Helping youth succeed takes commitment and action from our whole community. Champions for Youth are people who act in small and big ways to support youth in central Indiana. Throughout the year, MCCOY spotlights and honors those people who are making a difference in the lives of youth and families in our community. Click here to read about our Everyday Champions.

Who can nominate an Everyday Champion? Anyone
Who can be nominated? Anyone who lives in central Indiana

Nomination Process

  1. Complete this online form to Nominate an Everyday Champion
    You'll be asked the following:
    1. How do you know the nominee?
    2. Why are you nominating them?
    3. Why makes them unique, what makes them stand-out as a Champion for Youth?
    4. If available, provide a story illustrating what makes them a Champion.
  2. MCCOY will contact the nominee and ask them to complete an online questionnaire, answering the following:
    1. What is your profession or vocation?
    2. How are you an Everyday Champion for Youth?
    3. What impact do you hope to make on youth?
    4. What’s one thing that you wish an adult had told you when you were a young person?
    5. What do you want to do next to support youth?
    6. Do you work directly with youth or families? If yes, what percentage of your time is spent working directly with youth or families.

Champion for Youth Awards


The Champion for Youth awards will honor youth-workers who have made a significant impact on the youth with whom they work. In addition, we hope that this honor will help the community better understand the level of knowledge, compassion and commitment that is required by the youth-workers in our community.

Eligibility:

  • Must live in central Indiana
  • Must be a youth development professional who spends at least 40% of his/her time working directly with youth. (After-school workers, teachers, counselors, daycare providers, etc. )

Selection Process Overview

  • Everyday Champion nominations will be accepted through October 31, 2010. Those nominees who meet the eligibility requirements will be considered for the Champion for Youth award.
  • November 8, 2010: An independent selection committee will review the Everyday Champion nominations and select several finalists (exact number to be determined based on number of nominations).
  • November, 15, 2010: The community will be able to vote for the winners via an online voting process. This process will also allow voters to add comments and testimonials to support each nominee. Specifics of the voting process will be established by November 1st.
  • December 9,2010: Awards will be presented to the winners at a Youth Development Pro Recognition Reception organized by MCCOY.

Awards*

  • $300 to highest-rated Champion; $200 to their organization
  • $100 to 2nd & 3rd highest-rated

*If additional funding can be secured, additional prizes may be awarded or prize amounts increased.At Prizes may also be awarded for attendance at Provider Council, YPQA/I participation, etc.
