THE PROJECT

  • Local providers offer hundreds of transformative and efficient social services for families in need. However, they are spread throughout Indianapolis and are not accessible to our most vulnerable residents.

  • The Early Intervention and Prevention (EIP) Initiative at MCCOY is leading the effort by convening a wide variety of partners for a co-location pilot site and advocating for co-location in Indianapolis.

  • By offering several social services at a single neighborhood-based delivery point, we reduce many barriers that children and families have in finding help. Co-location of services is an integral part of a thriving community.

  • SAVI Community Information System at IU completed a detailed gap analysis and identified 3 local neighborhoods that are most in need of a co-location of services site: Haughville (46222), Fountain Square (46203), and Martindale-Brightwood (46218).

CO-LOCATION RESOURCES

MCCOY is a member of the NonProfitCenters Network, "a community of nonprofit and philanthropic leaders and professionals from the financial, real estate, and public sectors dedicated to sharing their knowledge and networks for creating and operating quality nonprofit workspace." They have just released a ground-breaking study on the benefits of co-location. Click here to view.

In Spring 2011, a group of graduate students from the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs completed a 200 page report about co-location and Indianapolis. Setting the framework for MCCOY's project, this student team:

  • Researched the benefits and challenges of nonprofit co-location of services

  • Identified national and local best practice models

  • Created a business plan for MCCOY to use as it designs a local co-location site
